One key benefit of waterborne acrylic coatings is their ease of clean-up. As long as a latex paint is not allowed to dry on tools and equipment, the best method for cleaning up is rinsing with clean water.

Spray pumps and hoses should be flushed with clean water until all wet paint is gone. Only then should a water-miscible solvent such as acetone be used to flush the water out of the system, followed by mineral spirits. Leaving some mineral spirits in the equipment will help prevent corrosion if non-stainless steel parts are present. DO NOT try flushing spray equipment with a solvent while wet latex paint is still present. The solvent can cause the latex to coagulate in hoses and pumps, which flushing with either water or solvent will not remove.

For dry paint, a solvent such as acetone may be used to soften to paint film so that it can be wiped off surfaces.
