Why are acrylics used in coatings?

There are a number of reasons that acrylic binders are a good choice for paints and coatings. Just a few are:

• Acrylic binders have excellent resistance to ultraviolet light (UV), which translates into excellent exterior durability, as demonstrated by:
     - Excellent color retention
     - Maintenance of film clarity (especially important in clear coatings)
     - Resistance to chalking
     - Excellent gloss retention
• Toughness
• Maintain flexibility and resistance to embrittlement over time
• Resistant to grain cracking over wood
• Hydrolytically stable
• A wide range of compositions are attainable (i.e., the composition can be tailored for various applications)
