Where else are acrylic polymers used?

Fifty years of innovation have made the term “acrylic” synonymous with the highest quality in the world of architectural and industrial coatings. The fact is, however, that coatings represent only one of a whole host of uses for acrylic chemistry. Acrylic technology, first used to make plastics in the 1920’s, is found in a variety of uses ranging from paints and coatings to super-absorbent baby diapers. The following list highlights some of the more prominent uses of acrylic polymers in the products and processes that surround us each day.

• Paints and coatings
• Motor oil additives
• Adhesives
• Leather tanning and finishing
• Caulks and sealants
• Plastic, e.g., Plexiglas®
• Scale inhibitors for water systems
• Personal care products
• Detergent additives
• Cement modifiers
• Textile finishes
• Floor polishes
• Paper coatings
